Stop sweating the small stuff…

Stop sweating the small stuff…

Soooooooo, i got this text yesterday and it went something like this…

Text – I just finished my workout Tony and I’m hungry. Is it ok to eat a banana?

Me – Why would it not be ok?

Text – I thought there were certain things not to eat after being in the gym?

Me – You eat what you want girl 🙂

(I went on to explain a few things)

People often ask me what is best to consume after their workout and i always say…

Do you roughly know how many calories you are eating on a day to day basis?

Do you go out at the weekends and hit the booze pretty hard?

Do you know how active you are being on a day to day basis?

The usual response is no.

They’ve basically started to sweat the small stuff without the basics in place.

Im telling you now, NAIL the basics 90% of the time and the small stuff really doesn’t matter all that much.

You only need to start sweating the small stuff when you have reached your final plateau and have been consistent with the basics for a good period of time.

Base your meals around a lean protein source (100-150g chicken, beef, fish, dairy, pork etc), throw several handfuls of vegetables on top and include ONE handful of carbohydrates (potato, rice, pasta, breads etc) and you are good to go from a main meal point of view.

Throw a piece of fruit or two a day in, maybe a small handful of nuts, a decent dairy source and you’ve built yourself a solid start to a good diet.

^^^^^ This will get you pretty close to where you wanna be without worrying about food after training. In the list of importance, it’s seriously not near the top.

So, are you going to worry about what you are eating after training now?

Tony.
