I had my first meeting with Tony last night and I thought now would be a good time to begin writing about my journey and share a little about me and why I entered the competition run by Tony and Top Condition Personal Training.
I’ve been over-weight my whole adult life and have tried so many different diets over the years. Nothing has ever really worked and I’ve never maintained any weight-loss I did achieve. My typical eating patterns kick back in and the weight goes back on.
I’m a VERY busy person. I work full-time as a primary teacher (55+hrs a week), I run a house and have a busy social life. Focusing on healthy, sustainable eating and exercising haven’t really been priorities as there was always something that took precedence.
The start of a new school year kickstarted a new approach to my health. Fortunately, I’ve never really suffered with any health conditions so my weight hasn’t really impacted on my day-to-day life. However, this year I diagnosed with gallstones and I am now in need of an operation for my gallbladder to be removed. Due to my BMI, the surgeon is reluctant to remove it until my BMI comes down.
After 3 months of doing this by myself, I’ve lost 17lbs but still have a way to go. If I’m honest, I plateaued recently and I’ve let life get in the way again. When the Top Condition competition popped up on Facebook, it seemed like just the nudge I needed to get back on track. To actually win was such a boost and I’m really thankful to Tony for being chosen.
I made my appointment to meet up and have the initial meeting with Tony. Of course I was apprehensive and a little bit unsure of what was expected of me. I filled in the paperwork required and took it along to discuss throughout the session.
Upon arrival, I was soon made to feel comfortable and relaxed. Tony talked through the questions he had about my current lifestyle, my motivations and my goals.
It was good to talk to someone who knew where I was coming from, but at no point did I feel judged. I genuinely felt he wanted to understand how I ‘tick’ and what he can do to help me in ways best suited to me. I guess that’s the ‘personal’ part of this whole process. I felt I could be really honest with Tony and it helped me to understand a bit more about my motivations and goals as I’d not really considered them in detail before.
After both mine and Tony’s questions had been answered, I needed to have my movement assessed. He led me through a series of movements and activities, first demonstrating and then talking me through them as I carried them out. I tried my best…even with the occasional wobble or stumble…but had Tony’s encouragement throughout. I did feel a little self-conscious at first, but I soon got over that and in no time I was being a ‘dead bug’ and even ‘Superman’!
We finished off with a final debrief of what I was to expect over the coming weeks and my first goals were set.
Overall it was a really positive first meeting. I left feeling enthusiastic and motivated and any apprehension or fears I had were well and truly squatted away!
