Sam’s Personal Training Story –
Hello again
I’ve had my first full week under the guidance and supervision of Tony…and I’ve had a really positive week…even with a super manic week at work and the gift of a tummy bug (one of the perks of working in a school!).
I’ve had a 2 &1/2 lb loss this week, with primarily a diet focus. I’m really pleased with this and has shown I’m back on track. The exercise element of Tony’s support starts this coming week…eeekk!
I use the : ‘My Fitness Pal’ app on my phone to track what I’ve been eating. I then send screenshots of my daily food diary to Tony and he analyses what I’ve eaten and makes suggestions. I’ve found it super helpful to have his input and the suggestions have been realistic and practical. I log at lunchtime, after dinner and just before bed to make sure I keep an accurate diary. It’s so easy to forget what I’ve eaten if I just do it all at the end of the day, especially if I’ve had a crazy busy day!
One of the diet tweeks Tony suggested was changing from skimmed to whole milk. I was a little concerned as this seemed to go against everything I knew about losing weight. Add MORE fat?? But, Tony had noticed from my daily logs that I wasn’t getting enough in my current diet and explained that fat in itself isn’t bad and not to be scared of it. So I’ve made the change to blue top milk…yum!
One of the other concerns I had was that this weekend was going to be a very sociable one…out Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Not a typical weekend for me, but common during the Christmas lead-up. I didn’t want to jepordise my hard work by eating and drinking the lots of lovely Christmas delights I wanted to, so I asked Tony for advice. He gave me a few ideas to try.
#1:
Most importantly, have fun! Enjoy the festivities and have a blast. (That I could definitely manage!)
#2:
limit my carb intake on the days I was drinking, to save calories for alcohol. (Also not too tricky)
#3:
Reduce my eating window on these days to limit the number of calories I consume.
(Fairly easy to do on a weekend day)
The one thing I’ve realised with Tony’s help is: you can still have fun, enjoy the partying and not miss out – but the journey doesn’t need to be sacrificed…it just needs a slight detour and some thought.
My milestone moment this week was turning down take-away pizza to have a jacket potato instead! I knew my party weekend was coming up and I was making allowances in readiness for it, to ensure my progress wasn’t affected. Something I’d never had factored in before!
So after my big weekend, I don’t feel bad for enjoying myself and realise it’s still very achievable – I don’t have to start again. This week the training sessions begin and Tony has assured me he’ll be gentle with me the first couple of sessions…we’ll see if my body agrees at the end of the week!
